17 UNESCO sites. One private car. No queues.

Kyoto holds 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites within a single city. A private car changes the arithmetic entirely — Fushimi Inari reachable at 06:30 before the crowds, temples that require 45-minute taxi queues visited back-to-back, lunch wherever you decide at the moment. No transfers, no bus stops, no waiting.

The classic circuit covers Fushimi Inari's orange torii corridors, the Arashiyama bamboo grove and Tenryu-ji garden, Kinkaku-ji's golden reflection, the food lanes of Nishiki Market, Gion's preserved machiya townhouses, and Kiyomizu-dera's wooden terrace overlooking the city. Order and pace are yours entirely.

Optional Nara extension: Nara is just 45 minutes south. Combine a Kyoto morning with an afternoon at Todai-ji's Great Buddha (16 metres, cast in 749 AD), Kasuga Grand Shrine's 3,000 stone lanterns, and a walk through the deer park where 1,200 sika deer roam freely as national treasures. Tell us your hotel locations and we'll build the optimal route.

Kyoto through the year

Maruyama-koen & Philosopher's Path
Kyoto's most celebrated cherry blossom spots peak in late March and early April. Maruyama Park's weeping cherry, illuminated at night, draws visitors from across Japan. The Philosopher's Path canal is lined with 450 trees in full bloom.
Heian Shrine Garden
The strolling garden behind Heian Shrine transforms in April — double-weeping cherry trees arch over the stone bridge, one of Kyoto's most photographed spring scenes. Included in the Philosopher's Path morning route.
Ninnaji Monks in Sakura
Ninnaji Temple's Omuro cherry blossoms bloom one week later than the rest of Kyoto — short-trunked, eye-level trees that Buddhist monks have tended for centuries. Unique and rarely overcrowded even at peak season.
Arashiyama in Bloom
Cherry blossoms line the Oi River bank at Arashiyama. Combined with the bamboo grove at 07:00 before tour buses arrive, spring mornings here are genuinely extraordinary — mist, birdsong, and pale pink canopy.

Gion Matsuri — July 17 Procession
Kyoto's most famous festival fills the entire month of July. The main procession on July 17 — enormous ceremonial floats called yamaboko — moves through the city centre. A private car positions you perfectly without the crowd crush.
Arashiyama at Dawn
Summer mornings in Arashiyama are among Kyoto's finest — mist hangs over the bamboo before 08:00, the river is still, and boat punters ply the Oi River below the mountains. Arrive before the tour buses and the difference is total.
Kibune Kawadoko Dining
From June through September, restaurants in Kibune village build wooden platforms over the cool mountain stream. Kaiseki dinner served riverside, feet above rushing water in the cedar forest. 30 minutes from central Kyoto by car.
Kifune Shrine Walk
Above the Kawadoko restaurants, Kifune Shrine sits at the end of a stone lantern corridor flanked by maple trees. In summer, green and cool. The short walk up from the village is one of Kyoto's lesser-known pleasures.
Sample Summer Itinerary — 10 Hours from Kyoto Hotel

    Fushimi Inari Shrine
Dawn torii walk before the heat builds. Outer gates and lower mountain loop.

    Kibune — Kawadoko riverside
Optional evening extension: riverside kaiseki on wooden platform over cool mountain stream (June–September).
Tofuku-ji Maple Illuminations
In November, Tofuku-ji temple's Tsutenkyo bridge is surrounded by one of Japan's finest maple displays — orange, red, and gold filling the ravine below. Evening illuminations extend viewing hours and transform the colours entirely.
Eikan-do Evening Light-Up
Eikan-do's evening autumn illumination is among Kyoto's most intimate — the pond reflects lit maple canopy, the buildings remain dark, and the sound of water carries through the garden. Mid-November peak.
Kiyomizu-dera in Crimson
Kiyomizu-dera's wooden stage terrace looks over a hillside of crimson and gold maple in November. The approach through Sannen-zaka and Ninenzaka lanes is equally beautiful, lined with old machiya townhouses.
Arashiyama Bamboo in Autumn Light
The bamboo grove itself stays green year-round, but the surrounding Sagano forest turns gold in October–November. The contrast between permanent green bamboo and autumn hillsides is particularly photogenic.
Sample Autumn Itinerary — 10 Hours from Kyoto Hotel

    Fushimi Inari Shrine
Morning torii walk. Autumn maples beginning to frame the inner shrine paths.
  • 09:00

  • 18:00
    Hotel return
Drop-off at your Kyoto or Osaka hotel.
Kinkaku-ji Under Snow
Kinkaku-ji in snow is one of Japan's most photographed winter scenes — the gold-leaf pavilion against pure white ground and a still grey pond. Snow falls perhaps 3–5 times a winter in Kyoto. January and February are most likely.
Fushimi Inari — No Crowds
Winter is the quietest time at Fushimi Inari. The 10,000 torii gates in morning frost with almost no other visitors is an entirely different experience from spring or autumn. Crisp air, silent mountain paths, pine trees dusted with snow.
Nijo Castle — Quiet and Crisp
Nijo Castle's expansive gardens and stone corridors are best appreciated in winter when the leaf canopy is gone and the architecture reads clearly. The nightingale floors are audible in near-silence. Rarely crowded in January.
Winter Nara Extension
Add Nara in winter — deer in morning mist, Kasuga Shrine lanterns lit against dark sky, Todai-ji Great Buddha with almost no other visitors. Far quieter than any other season.
Sample Winter Itinerary — 10 Hours from Kyoto Hotel
  • 07:00
    Fushimi Inari Shrine

    Kiyomizu-dera
Winter views over the city. Sannen-zaka lanes in cool afternoon light.
  • 17:00
    Hotel return

Two vehicles.
One formation.

When the group exceeds what a single vehicle can hold, we don't hand you off to a bus company. We send two — or three — of our own vehicles together, coordinated as a fleet. One lead driver, one group chat, one point of contact. Every vehicle in the convoy is ours. Every driver is ours. That is what makes it different from a chartered bus.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a private Kyoto tour cost?

A private Kyoto day tour costs from ¥90,000 per vehicle (Toyota Alphard, 1–4 passengers, half day) or ¥105,000 for a full day. A HiAce for up to 9 passengers is ¥105,000–¥120,000. The price is per vehicle, not per person.

Is the price per person or per vehicle?

All Hire Taxi Japan prices are per vehicle, not per person. A Toyota Alphard seats 1–4 passengers and a Toyota HiAce seats up to 9, so the per-person cost drops sharply for families and groups. Larger parties can book two or three vehicles in convoy — up to 27 passengers.

What can a private car cover in Kyoto in one day?

A typical day links Fushimi Inari's torii gates (early, before crowds), Kinkaku-ji Golden Pavilion, Arashiyama's bamboo grove, and Kiyomizu-dera — a circuit that takes far longer by bus and taxi queues. Your driver handles parking at every site.

How early should I visit Fushimi Inari to avoid crowds?

Arrive by 7:30–8:00 for a quiet walk through the lower torii tunnels. With a private car you can do this comfortably — your driver picks you up at the hotel at 7:00 and you are at the gates before the tour groups arrive.

Does the Kyoto tour include hotel pickup?

Yes. Your English-speaking driver meets you in the lobby of your hotel in Kyoto or Osaka (or any address you choose) and returns you door-to-door at the end of the day. Luggage, strollers, and shopping bags travel in the car with you.

Do the drivers speak English?

Yes. All Hire Taxi Japan chauffeurs communicate in English and are licensed professional drivers. They handle navigation, parking, and timing — and share local recommendations — but are drivers rather than licensed tour guides.

How long is the Kyoto tour?

Plan for 8–10 hours. Because the tour is private, the schedule is flexible — you can extend time at any stop, skip others, or ask your driver to reorder the day around weather and crowds.

How do I book or ask a question?

Book online via the Japan Tour Package page on hiretaxijapan.mom, or message us on WhatsApp at +81 70 1265 4460 for a custom plan. We confirm availability and your driver's details within a few hours.
